Battlefront producer touches on Hero Blast, Skirmish and sequel in podcast

Battlefront producer Paul Keslin recently discussed a number of topics on the latest episode of the Battlefront Podcast.

You can listen to the whole podcast episode on SoundCloud; however, I’ve posted several highlights below.

  • Obi-Wan never made it in the game largely due to his potential similarity to Luke.
  • Battlefront 2 will incorporate “a lot of what fans have been asking for and what they’ve been talking about.”
  • “Due to time” constraints, the stormtrooper variants for Luke and Han have been scrapped (also probably Leia’s outfit from A New Hope).
  • Keslin couldn’t comment on when the team will “officially” be done with this Battlefront. However, they “want to make sure there that are things happening for players for quite some time […] to keep players engaged up until the next game at least.”
  • On adding more modes to Skirmish: “Right now, there’s nothing further I can say on Skimish, unfortunately.”
  • On Hero Blast: “Hero Blast is something we started working on at one point, but is something that we had to pause for various reasons. Part of it is in the code, unfortunately, but nothing to say about that mode itself.”

Han and Luke will be getting new hero outfits in Battlefront.

Unfortunately, Keslin seems a bit less optimistic about Skirmish and Hero Blast than Dennis Brannvall’s tweets from last week. If I were to guess, Hero Blast has a better chance of happening than Skirmish, but Keslin’s words don’t really inspire much confidence for either piece of content.

I’ll add that DICE has yet to give an outright “no” to Hero Blast or more Skirmish modes. I would just try to keep level expectations regarding the future of those potential additions.

Regardless, hopefully next year’s Battlefront will answer fans’ desire for more offline content, and perhaps a fresh hero-centric mode. While nothing’s confirmed just yet, Motive Studios does certainly seem to be building a more fleshed out offline portion for Battlefront 2.

The whole podcast is certainly worth a listen. Keslin also touches on hero balancing, helmetless stormtroopers, and various other topics.
