Battlefront dev completes work on Rogue One DLC; reveal soon

Battlefront level artist Daniel Cambrand revealed today that he has done his part for the Rogue One expansion.

Cambrand announced this news via a tweet:

Exciting stuff, especially the bit about a “reveal coming soon”. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to catch a glimpse of Jyn Erso and Director Krennic in Battlefront! Of course, “soon™” could mean in the next week or the next month. 🙂

Note that because Cambrand is a level artist, there is still likely work to be done. Lighting work usually takes place after the levels are all modeled, so that still needs to be completed (and lighting artist Oscar Carlen is currently working on this exact aspect). Additionally, I’d assume DICE needs to work other balancing/testing tweaks as well. The expansion update will also contain a bevy of other fixes in a patch, so those also need to be factored in.

With that in mind and for those keeping score at home, let’s take a look at when Cambrand finished work on previous DLCs and how the dates lined up.

First, he finished work on Bespin on June 1. That expansion/update then released 20 days later on June 21.

Cambrand then completed his part for the Death Star on August 27. The Death Star expansion/update arrived 24 days later on September 20.

All told, the DLCs wrapped up roughly three weeks after Cambrand finished his work.

Pegging Rogue One to be three weeks out places a rough estimate for Tuesday, December 6. I put Tuesday down as the date because updates most often fall on that day of the week. If the update arrives on December 6, non-Season Pass holders would get the expansion on December 20.

However, this is pure guesswork. It’s also worth noting that previous expansions arrived towards the end of the month and not the beginning. If this trend stays true, the Rogue One expansion could arrive December 20 for Season Pass holders and then early January for those without the Season Pass.

So we can’t really nail down a precise date. That said, there is an optimistic possibly the expansion will be here as early as December 6.

When do you think the Rogue One DLC will arrive? Share your idea down in the comments, or let us know via Twitter or Facebook.

I reckon the deciding factor in the release of the DLC will be the release of the film itself. It is safe to assume the expansion will contain spoilers and as such they will not want to release the DLC until most people have had a chance to see the film. I Think you are spot on with your 20th Dec estimate. This does beg another question. If the DLC does drop prior to the films release would you avoid playing to remain spoiler free? (i think I know the answer to this!)
PS I love the blog – keep up the good work!

If it does wind up dropping prior to the movie, I’m still definitely playing it. I don’t think I could stop myself! 😀 haha

Thanks for the support! It’s great to hear!
