Kashyyyk is set to be one of Battlefront II’s biggest maps

For those who missed it, Battlefront II’s associate design director Dennis Branvall shared some new tidbits during Darkness429’s livestream earlier this week.

One of the biggest tidbits included some new hints regarding the wookiee planet of Kashyyyk.

“It’s definitely the largest planet in terms of gameplay space,” Brannvall said of Chewbacca’s homeworld during the stream. “It’s the most open and largest and more vehicle-focused map that we have in the prequels. I think that it will probably compare to the experience you will get on Hoth […] in terms of how [Kashyyyk] will feel.”

Battlefront II producer Paul Keslin added that “when it comes to gameplay, [Kashyyyk is] a unique location. It doesn’t feel like anything else.”

Moving onto playlists and matchmaking, Keslin told Darkness429, “We want to streamline those things for players. […] We want to make sure everyone can get into a game, find a game at any time always play with the current stuff, always play with everybody. There’s no separation. We’re trying to bring down those barriers as best we can.”

Brannvall added: “And also, less modes, more maps [than the first Battlefront]. We are combining a lot of the experiences.”

While that doesn’t sound too encouraging for those that want a server browser, I’m happy to hear that we’ll be seeing fewer modes in the game. In the first Battlefront, the final count of 14 modes felt bloated and contributed to splitting the community. It also felt like a way to tack on more “content” as the game only launched with four playable environments.

Battlefront II already feels much bigger, with 10 locations confirmed for multiplayer and at least one more for the single-player campaign. I’d also reckon that we’ll get seven modes or fewer at launch (the last game began with nine), so that should help promote a more cohesive community.

Battlefront II launches November 17 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Find SWGO on Facebook or Twitter to follow along with the game’s progress.
