Battlefront II mod takes on the cancelled Battlefront III’s Bespin map

Battlefront II Bespin mod in Battlefront III: Legacy.

A new video is now up showcasing Battlefront III: Legacy’s take on Bespin.

Legacy is a mod for Battlefront II that utilizes assets from Free Radical’s cancelled Battlefront III. I’ve written about it numerous times before, but today the modders released some footage of the project’s Bespin map.

So far, Coruscant, Cato Neimoidia and Bespin have been showed off for Legacy. As those maps utilize assets from Battlefront III, they are some of the best looking ones I’ve ever seen for Battlefront II. I’ve really been impressed with the first two maps and Bespin is no different.

The Bespin bit isn’t available to download just yet. Still, the preview video offers a pretty comprehensive look at the map (including how its space-to-ground part functions):

According to one of the mod’s creators, El Fabrico, “Bespin is as much replicated as possible” and it uses “extracted files from the leaked build as well as ‘some’ custom things and additions.”

You can also see the map in action in old Battlefront III alpha footage that was posted April 2016. Neither versions of the map hold a candle to DICE’s take on Bespin in the 2015 Battlefront. However, when you consider the age of Battlefront II (it was released over 12 years ago) and when Battlefront III was in development (the project was canned roughly a decade ago), Bespin looks pretty solid.

I’ve certainly enjoyed seeing the modders tackle this project, so I’ll be curious to see where it goes in the future!

That moment when you recognize both the article’s author (from the EA swbf’s forums) and the mentioned mod creator (“El Fabrico” AKA the_legend from an old swbfII clan).

    The memories. The feels.
