(Next?) Battlefront patch to come with Rogue One DLC in December

Boba Fett on Tatooine in Battlefront.

By the look of things, Battlefront won’t be receiving a patch update this month.

This information comes by way of Dennis Brannvall, who worked on the game as its lead designer:

Brannvall recently announced he would be taking parental leave from the game as his family welcomed its second child.

While I won’t mark it 100-percent confirmed that a patch won’t be coming this month, Brannvall’s wording certainly seems to imply that the next patch for Battlefront won’t arrive until December. EA/DICE previously confirmed the Rogue One expansion is set for that month.

This is somewhat unfortunate news—especially considering the game has had bug issues since the Death Star DLC released in September. A patch would also be welcomed before the Ultimate Edition ships. Still, it’s nice to have a better timeframe for the next patch.

Based on Brannvall’s comments, it also seems likely that the Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission will launch for PS4 VR users alongside the Rogue One DLC, whenever that arrives in December.

Additionally, Brannvall commented on a potential replacement for him:

Heading over to the speculation realm, I reckon this means most of the Rogue One DLC’s groundwork is set. Additionally, without a lead designer, I doubt we’ll get much in the form of free content post-Rogue One.

Hopefully there’ll be patches after the DLC and perhaps some small events or minor content drops. The rumored Hero Blast mode could also be on the horizon. That said, not replacing the lead designer doesn’t inspire much confidence. Again, this is all guesswork on my part, so I could be completely off the mark.

Finally, I just want to give props to Brannvall to continue his interactions with the community. As he is on paternity leave and not working on the game, he’s under no obligation to do so. It’s certainly admirable to see him do this.
