Dennis Brannvall hints at future map size in Battlefront

Map sizes in Battlefront’s expansions have been a mixed bag so far.

The Outer Rim DLC was a “close-quarters” pack featuring relatively small maps; Bespin only included one truly large-scale map in its four ground maps; and the Death Star’s interior maps echoed the Outer Rim’s close-quarters gameplay with three smaller maps.

On the flip side, it is worth noting that DICE did produce a trio of free large-scale maps in the months following the game’s release.

However, the general focus on small-style maps has left fans eager for more large-scale maps that support big modes, like Battlefront’s showcase, Walker Assault.

The game’s lead designer, Dennis Brannvall, recently hinted that fans of those big maps may just be getting their wish.

“We have done large maps, with Bespin, which does count,” he wrote to a forum user in a message thread. “There will be more large maps coming too.”

Forum user Ahsoka_Tano was kind enough to share an screenshot of the exchange with me.

This comes just days after Brannvall teased on the Battlefront Podcast that Battlefront will “probably continue” doing multi-stage modes in the future. The game currently has multi-stage modes in the form of Sabotage and Battle Station.

These clues could hint that December’s Rogue One: Scarif expansion might include a multi-stage mode set on large-scale maps.

Speculating further now, perhaps one of its stages could be similar to Walker Assault. Instead of AT-ATs, though, it could have AT-ACTs. These cargo transports were shown off in Rogue One trailers (and seen in the image above).

Brannvall could also be implying that we might see free large-scale maps in the future. However, my guess is that Rogue One’s maps will be more large-scale than a free map pack. However, I wouldn’t say no to both happening!
