An image linking the PSVR to Battlefront II has been making the rounds recently

A space conflict in Battlefront II.

Earlier today, a poster on the gaming forum NeoGaf shared an image from a PlayStation newsletter that indicated EA’s Battlefront II will receive PlayStation VR support.

However, in the time since that post, I have been unable to independently verify that the image is official. As such, I can’t confirm that this info is true with 100-percent certainty. If you did receive the newsletter in question, don’t hesitate to contact me via email or through Twitter. I would be more than happy to update this post once I receive a forwarded copy of the newsletter!

According to the thread on NeoGaf, the image below is from Sony’s PlayStation newsletter for Denmark:

The tag below the Battlefront II thumbnail translates from Danish to English as “PlayStation VR Compatible”. A poster in the thread later on claimed that the same thumbnail appeared in the German version of the newsletter.

German gaming site Playfront.de also wrote about this information and shared their own image from the newsletter.

Edit: A user on Twitter reported that the Swedish version of the newsletter also received this thumbnail with the tag. Personally—with at least four sources reporting this image—I’m inclined to think that it did indeed arrive via an official PlayStation newsletter. However, as I mention below, it’s quite possible that the tag was mistakenly applied to the thumbnail.

However, I wouldn’t mark PSVR content as “confirmed” for Battlefront II just yet. To reiterate, I was unable to personally verify the image’s accuracy as part of the newsletter. It’s further possible that the VR tag was mistakenly applied to the Battlefront II thumbnail.

Next, it isn’t exactly clear what this content may be or how VR might function within Battlefront II. Finally, EA hasn’t actually said anything specific in regards to VR content for Battlefront II at this time.

Previously, Criterion Games’ Matt Webster discussed VR with Eurogamer at Star Wars Celebration in April.

“We are not talking about VR at the moment for Battlefront 2,”  he said then. “That’s a story for another day…”

So in summary, the image in question probably doesn’t confirm PSVR support for Battlefront II. However, I do think it lends credence to the idea that Battlefront II may feature some sort of PSVR aspect.

EA’s last Battlefront received a PSVR-exclusive X-wing mission in December 2016 that tied into the Rogue One movie. Criterion—the U.K.-based studio that has been confirmed to be working on vehicles for Battlefront II—constructed that short VR experience. The mission was met with generally favorable reviews.

Battlefront II launches November 17 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Keep up with the game’s progress via SWGO on Facebook or Twitter.

I don’t need VR, the focus has to be the main game. If this is well done then it’s a good idea to create VR for the few customers who actually have it.
For now: Clone Wars is what I want to see. Good there is an OT campaign and TLJ stuff, but at first I want to see Clone Wars what EA is holding back for good reasons. I am waiting for EA Play. Hopefully you can make an article about it 🙂
