VR experiment Trials on Tatooine added to Viveport in celebration of May the 4th

R2-D2 in Trials on Tatooine.

Ahead of tomorrow’s unofficial Star Wars holiday, May the 4th, ILMxLAB added their Trials on Tatooine virtual reality experiment to Viveport, the digital storefront for the HTC Vive headset.

In addition, there will be a Facebook Live event on the HTC Vive Facebook page at 1 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET on May 4. During this event, members of ILMxLAB will give “a personal guided tour” of the Trials on Tatooine experience.

These announcements came via a blog post on the official Vive website. You can also find out more details at ViveMaythe4th.com.

Trials on Tatooine originally debuted at last year’s Star Wars Celebration in London. The experience allows users to weild a lightsaber while defending R2-D2 from stomtroopers and to also repair the Millennium Falcon. The experience is set post-Return of the Jedi in the Star Wars timeline.

ILMxLAB dubs Trials on Tatooine an experiment because the project was the team’s “first foray into real-time rendering and with it came a lot of lessons learned.”

If you have an HTC Vive and a compatible PC, you can download the experience on Viveport. It’s also available through Steam. Both options are free.
