Here’s another look at the upcoming HD X-Wing mod

It looks like we may be getting closer and closer to the demo release of an HD mod for the classic Star Wars game, X-Wing.

Titled XWVM, this mod promises an HD rework of X-Wing, which originally released in 1993. I have previously reported on the mod a couple of times.

The latest video is a play through of the Y-Wing Historical Mission 2, which is titled “Target Practice”.  You can watch it below:

The mod definitely looks pretty good. I can’t wait to tryout its demo, which should release shortly, according to the project’s leader David Esparza-Guerrero.

“Just a bit longer,” Esparza-Guerrero wrote in response to someone asking for a playable version on the mod’s Facebook group. “I would like to have some thing[s] running before releasing. Briefings and the other two Y-wing historical missions.”

In the same comment thread on Facebook, Esparza-Guerrero also added that the enemy AI will see some tweaking.

Hopefully we will get our hands on a playable version some point soon. However, as modders generally work on projects like this in their spare time, I’m fine waiting as long as they need to take. There’s no sense in encouraging modders to rush a project.

Note that if you do want to give this mod a go once it does release, you’ll need to own a copy of the 1993 X-Wing game. That game can be picked up on GOG.com and there’s also a version on Steam. Both cost US$9.99 when not on sale.
