No more Skirmish planned for current Battlefront; Criterion to work on next one

In a blog post on Battlefront’s official site, EA confirmed that Battlefront won’t be getting more Skirmish content in the future.

Instead, DICE has moved its focus towards the sequel. The post reads:

While no future Skirmish content is planned, DICE isn’t done with Star Wars – the team has shifted its focus to creating the next great Star Wars game, a collaborative effort between three world-class studios: DICE, Criterion, and Motive.

This is the first confirmation that Criterion Games will work on the Battlefront sequel. Criterion helped develop the speeder bike mission for the 2015 Battlefront, as well as crafting the PSVR X-Wing mission.

Criterion is known for their vehicle work–the studio also worked on franchises such as Burnout and Need For Speed–so I’ll be curious to see how they impact the next Battlefront.

Motive’s involvement was confirmed back in June.

The news about Skirmish certainly is unfortunate, but not exactly unexpected. Work has certainly slowed on the current Battlefront since the final DLC drop, so it’s not much of a surprise.

However, single-player news for the sequel looks exciting as CEO Andrew Wilson announced a campaign during an earnings call earlier today. I’ll be sure to do a full post on that once the call is fully archived.
