Rumor: Visceral’s Star Wars game to be about a “random smuggler”; was originally Han Solo-focused

Thanks to StarWarsNewsNet.com, we now have a few rumors on Visceral Games’ upcoming Star Wars title to mull over.

Note, of course, because these are rumors from an undisclosed source, they may wind up false. However, they’re still interesting and fun to discuss.

Visceral’s game is currently in development and under the direction of Amy Henning, who helmed the Uncharted series. Assassin’s Creed veteran Jade Raymond is also involved with the project and so is another EA development house, Motive Studios.

According to SWNN’s source, around the time Raymond was brought on board, the dev team had to scramble to “rewrite / redo almost the entire project because they were worried about stepping on the toes of the movie being made.” This was because the game covered “too much of the same ground as the [Han Solo] film project.”

After this rework, the game is now “about some random smuggler and a largely different plot.” Despite this total revamp, “some of the baddies” have been kept.

It’s worth adding that both the game and the Han Solo movie are primed for 2018 releases. The movie, which stars Alden Eldrich as Han, penciled in a May 25 release date, while nothing specific has been set for the game.

Interestingly, SWNN’s source also indicated that Lucasfilm is in charge of the plot and not the game’s creative team.

Finally, the source claims the game was originally intended to be revealed at E3 2015 (or, more likely, EA PLAY). Jordan Maison, the editor-in-chief over at Cinelinx, later backed up that claim on Twitter.

Visceral’s title did get a minor tease at EA PLAY last year with a short snippet and some concept art, but not quite what one might consider a “reveal”.

With the game due out sometime next year, hopefully we will learn more at either Star Wars Celebration in April or EA PLAY in June.

Personally, I would enjoy playing a game about a random character set in the Star Wars universe. With such a large galaxy, there a numerous tales to tell. This all hinges, of course, on if the game has an engaging story and fun gameplay.

I want this game to be about Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors. A Dark Forces sequel is way overdue.
