KOTOR movie? Fans to attempt Revan short film

A group of Star Wars fans have recently announced their plan to create a Knights of the Old Republic-inspired short film titled “Star Wars Origins: Revan”.

The film, which the group calls “the most ambitious fan film ever”,  is set to revolve around Revan, a key character in the KOTOR series.  The synopsis for the project reads:

Star Wars Origins: Revan is an ambitious fan film that recounts when the Jedi first discover the young Revan. The location is a smokey cantina Carra Nisu (much like Mos Eisley) where smugglers, traders, and other seedy characters hang out.

Our story begins with the young Revan (as a kid) sneaking past security into Carra Nisu. He makes hIs way to the trading room in the back of the cantina where a small, mousy alien Whetor has brought a mysterious object to sell or trade. He is met by the no-nonsense Mandalorian, Belok, who takes advantage of him in a deal that allows the Mandalorian to secure the object for far less than its obvious value. Others see the coveted item and that’s when the scene turns violent.

Everyone is drawn into the battle for the item, including Revan and a Jedi who reveals herself. The fighting spills out into the main cantina area with more patrons losing their lives.

Decades later the older Revan returns to the now rundown cantina.  After battling and killing several patrons in a dispute Revan encounters an old friend he must now defeat in an epic lightsaber battle to the death.

The fan group, which is based in Dallas, Texas, will be launching a Kickstarter project with a $25,000 goal on January 9. Stretch goals include increasing the length of the film to over 30 minutes. You can view the project’s draft over on Kickstarter.

The funds gained via Kickstarter will go towards building the cantina in a warehouse, special effects, props, cast, crew and food. 3D concept art of the cantina has been released (which you can see some of above). I’m not entirely sure of the legality of launching a fan film through Kickstarter, but the project looks cool nonetheless!

You can also find out more about the project on the group’s Facebook page and website.

This actually isn’t the first fan film about Revan to launch a Kickstarter project. In 2013, a group successfully met a $5,000 goal and it later released the film “Revan” on YouTube.

That same group later tried to create a second movie, titled “Revan: The Fall”. It had a funding goal of $25,000 on Kickstarter, but ultimately fell short, gaining just over $11,000. You can, however, watch a teaser trailer for that project on YouTube.
