Battlefront producer touches on armor system, Rogue One DLC in podcast

An AT-AT in Battlefront.

On the most recent Battlefront Podcast, producer Paul Keslin discussed some behind-the-scene topics.

Several key takeaways from the podcast (which you can find on on SoundCloud):

  • On why Rogue One was chosen as the theme for the final expansion: “As part of our Season Pass, we told players that we were going to give them four expansion packs over the course of the year and the last part of that year happens to come very close to Rogue One the movie. We knew that from working with Lucasfilm and that was something that we kind of had an inkling of a little bit earlier on. For us, it made complete sense: ‘Okay, if there’s a movie coming out, there’s a lot of new content. That way we can give players something new, something fresh and still tie it into the episode four, five and six timeframe, which is something we’ve gone out and said that this game is set in.’ “
  • On the new armor system: “That was kind of Guillaume [Mroz]’s brainchild […] Speaking of kind of wanting to keep the game updated and try something new, but also bring something to the game that adds another layer of strategy. I think that’s where the armor system came into play. If we keep reusing mechanics in different ways, things get a bit boring […] If we bring in a new system and only some characters have access to that system, it creates a different level of strategy.”
  • On struggles creating the Rogue One: Scarif DLC: “It was a real challenge for the team, to rally around something that was still in development from a movie side and start building things while we didn’t know all the information; we didn’t have all the stuff that we needed. […] It was a fun challenge and the team really pulled together kicked out a lot of great stuff.”

Keslin also touches on other topics, including how DICE worked with Lucasfilm, creating the U-Wing in Battlefront and his role on the team. I highly suggest listening to the roughly 30-minute podcast over on SoundCloud when you get the chance.
