Dev post sheds light on Battlefront’s Rogue One DLC heroes; new traits

Jyn Erso on Sullust in Battlefront.

A new hero deep dive is up on the official Battlefront website.

This deep dive looks at Jyn Erso and Director Orson Krennic, the two new heroes that joined the game with the Rogue One: Scarif expansion. The post was likely written (or at least largely in part) by hero designer Guillaume Mroz, although no name is actually attached to the post.

Not much is added from SWGO’s previous look at the two new heroes, but there are a couple of new developer tips:

On Jyn’s A180 Rifle Extension ability:

Use this power to avoid overheating your weapon, as the Rifle Extension does not inherit existing head buildup from the previous configuration.

On her Sonic Imploder:

The motivation behind the Sonic Imploder is to give Jyn an opening to unleash her Truncheon Surge in close combat.

On her Truncheon Surge ability:

This ability paired with high charges can be devastating for the enemy team. Do not forget to have an exit strategy though as you might be left to deal with long range enemies after your attacks. Thankfully, Jyn is a really tough character and had a bit more health than most heroes to help in her melee fight.

Krennic in Battlefront.

Moving over to Krennic, the developer tip for his Armor Breaker ability is:

You will have to reload for each ammo shot so make sure you don’t use this ability if you are facing a group of enemies unless your Motivator trait brought in a lot of support.

On his C2-B5 Astromech droid:

C2-B5 provides a great defense mechanism for capture points, just watch out for Rebels with Scatter Guns.

On his Wrath of the Empire ability:

Time this ability well and you can drive your team to a win, but if you use it too early, it will leave your troopers with low health at the wrong time.

The article also looked at the updated hero traits for the base game heroes. The article didn’t go in-depth with the trait level names, or what each trait level specifically does; however, I’d figure I’d include those here (sourced from the patch notes) along with the developer comments:

Luke Skywalker: Jedi

  • Level 1 (Apprentice): 20% speed boost to Luke’s base sprint speed.
  • Level 2 (Knight): 40% speed boost.
  • Level 3 (Master): 80% speed boost.
  • Dev comment: “This trait will bring a really good hit and run mechanic to Luke, which we had a lot of fun testing.”

Han Solo: Scoundrel Fury

  • No level: Damage drop off begins at 22 meters and his DL-44 has a minimum damage of 30.
  • Level 1 (Pirate): Damage drop off at 30 meters, minimum damage of 40.
  • Level 2 (Gunslinger): Damage drop off at 45 meters, minimum damage of 50; close damage of 75.
  • Level 3 (Hero of the Rebellion): Damage drop off at 70 meters, minimum damage of 60; close damage of 80.
  • Dev comment: “This will allow Han Solo to somewhat compensate for his weakness in long-range combat.”

Leia on Hoth in Battlefront.

Princess Leia: Champion of Alderaan

  • Level 1 (Senator): Armor of nearby Rebels increased by 20%; Leia’s armor increased by 40%.
  • Level 2 (General): Rebel armor increased by 40%; Leia by 60%.
  • Level 3 (Leader of the Rebellion): Rebel armor increased by 60%; Leia by 80%.
  • Dev comment: “This will improve Leia’s support and counter Krennic’s own Trait.”

Darth Vader: Lord of the Sith

  • No level is called “Fear”.
  • Level 1 (Anger): Triggered by 1-2 enemies nearby. Darth Vader’s armor increased 20%.
  • Level 2 (Hate): Triggered by 3-4 enemies nearby. Armor increased 50%.
  • Level 3 (Suffering): Triggered by 5 or more enemies nearby. Armor increased 80%.
  • Dev comment: “This trait should push Vader to get into close combat with Rebels and sustain less damage in that case.”

Boba Fett on Tatooine.

Boba Fett: Bounty Seeker

  • No level: Scan ping of 5 meters.
  • Level 1 (Hunter): Scan ping radius increased to 10 meters; jetpack refuels 6% faster.
  • Level 2 (Incinerator): Scan ping radius increased to 15 meters; jetpack refuels 12% faster.
  • Level 3 (Disintegrator): Scan ping radius increased to 30 meters; jetpack refuels 18% faster.
  • Dev comment: “We want Boba Fett to feel like he has the ability to hunt the next kill and reward good play with a sustained flight.”

Emperor Palpatine: The Master

  • Level 1 (Strength): Increases Palpatine’s lightning recharge speed by 9%.
  • Level 2 (Power): Increases lightning recharge speed by 18%.
  • Level 3 (Victory): Increases lightning recharge speed by 25%.
  • Dev comment: “We wanted Palpatine to feel stronger with the Force and unleash unlimited power.”
