Check out what piloting a B-Wing might be like in Battlefront

B-Wing in Star Wars.

Battlefront received four new ship types for AI in last month’s Death Star update. Unfortunately, none of the new ships are currently pilotable by human players.

However, data miner Uninspired Zebra recently managed to force the game into loading pilotable versions of the new ships and they shared video of a B-Wing. Like yesterday’s video featuring Luke’s stormtrooper outfit, the B-Wing was forced to load via a mod. This means that while not fake, it isn’t indicative of what we’ll see if DICE makes the new ships pilotable.

While Uninspired Zebra posted video o a B-Wing, the data miner also managed to make the Y-Wing, TIE Defender and TIE Bomber pilotable.

Here’s the video:

A couple of things to note:

  • Damage output of the B-Wing is not modded at all. It’s the same as the current AI B-Wing.
  • The hero style pickups were forced by Uninspired Zebra. They were able also to set the ship as selectable alongside the X-Wing and A-Wing on the spawn screen.
  • The AI vehicles do have some player control code in-game, “but it was probably just copy-pasted from another vehicle”. This sits inline with with the findings of another data miner who previously uncovered “unfinished code for the [new vehicles] as player vehicles.”

So again, while this is awesome to see and it’s great that Uninspired Zebra managed to pull this off, should DICE include these new ships as player pilotable, things might change. The ships currently don’t appear have to have secondary abilities, they’re fire damage will likely change some and the method of gaining control of them might differ as well.

Additionally, Uninspired Zebra noted that “the Skirmish superbundles define a Supremacy gamemode bundle”. This Supremacy bundle is simply a copy+paste from the mode’s online version. I’m not sure if that means we’ll be seeing Supremacy in Skirmish next, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

Uninspired Zebra did share a few images of the other ships, which can be seen below:
