Battlefront devs comment on Death Star DLC heroes, release date (Updated)

Final touches being put on the Death Star.

News has been pretty dry lately regarding Battlefront’s Death Star expansion. However, a couple of DICE developers recently shed some light on what’s coming up.

Lighting artist Oscar Carlen, who finished up his work last Sunday, tweeted yesterday that he agrees with speculation that the Death Star DLC will appear before September 23:

Of course it’s not an official confirmation, but as the double score weekend is to celebrate the arrival of the Death Star for season pass holders, it follows that the expansion would launch beforehand. As previously speculated, September 20 looks like the potential target date because updates usually happen on Tuesdays.

Level artist Linnea Harrison, who worked on both Bespin and the Death Star, was also active on Twitter. She said that the Death Star “has been super fun in our latest playtests.”

Harrison further added that new heroes Chewbacca and Bossk are both “awesome.” She has only died against them, but hopes to play as Bossk in the near future.

While there could possibly be last-minute changes that might delay the DLC, hopefully we’ll get some new information on the Death Star this week. Assuming it will indeed launch on September 20, a trailer is a likely possibility for this week.

Regardless, it’s good to hear that the Death Star and its heroes are fun to play. No matter the exact date, it’s only a few short weeks until we’ll actually get our hands on them!

Be sure to keep checking back as more Death Star information comes available!

Update 2:42 p.m. PT: Interesting exchange with Harrison regarding heroes on the Death Star:

This could possibly confirm that Heroes vs Villains will not be present on the Death Star. This wouldn’t be too surprising as the Death Star is figured to be a 24-player playlist. As such, there would 16 non-heroes in the battle, which could take away a bit from the hero element.

However, we don’t have a solid statement just yet, so I’d mark this as “speculation” for the time being.
