SWGO’s Top 5 Highlights for the week of September 9
From fan projects to Visceral’s untitled game to Battlefront, we got a wide-range of Star Wars video game news this week. Here’s The Star Wars Game Outpost’s top five highlights:
1. A fan project set lets you explore Mos Eisley
Yesterday we took a look a fan-made Mos Eisley built in Unreal 4. The “interactive art piece” allows you to walk around the spaceport and look closely at the Millennium Falcon, X-Wings, TIE Fighters and astromechs. It’s all quite beautiful.
And the best part? Everything is rendered in real-time. On the downside, though, you’ll need a beefy PC to get it to run smoothly.
2. SWTOR got a new patch
Star Wars: The Old Republic saw Game Update 4.7.1 arrive on Wednesday. The update brought along a new bonus chapter centered around an assassin droid HK-55. Titled “Shroud of Mystery” the chapter requires that you escape from a hidden fortress ruled by a galactic villain named Shroud.
A new Alliance recruit arrived as well, plus Bounty Contract Week returned.
3. Amy Hennig talked about Visceral’s game
Amy Hennig discussed her Star Wars at PAX West. She stayed pretty tight-lipped on the topic, but she did reiterate that the game will center around an ensemble cast. AT-STs will make an appearance in the game, as will new technologies.
She also touched a bit on how the game relates to her previous projects within the Uncharted series and she noted that Visceral’s goal is to create an authentic Star Wars experience.
4. Lighting work on Battlefront’s Death Star DLC is complete
Battlefront’s lighting lead Oscar Carlan tweeted on Sunday that his work on the Death Star is done. As the expansion’s arrival is merely weeks away, the Death Star is likely almost (if not completely finished) by now.
If the DLC is due out on September 20 for Season Pass holders, we’ll probably be able to expect some sort of news from EA/DICE next week.
5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is now bootable on Dolphin
At long last, the PC-based Dolphin emulator can now boot all GameCube games. The final hurdle was the 2002 Pandemic title, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The Clone Wars was especially tricky because it handles memory differently than every other GameCube game released. Now that the team behind Dolphin has managed to boot the game, it seems to run fine, provided you have a decently spec’ed PC.
