Let’s break down possible Imperial outfits for Battlefront’s Death Star DLC

The Death Star DLC’s Battlefront arrival is merely weeks away.

With that in mind, I thought I’d revisit A New Hope and keep a keen eye looking for potential skins we might get alongside the expansion. Undoubtedly, this month’s update will see a max level increase. In addition, the game’s lead designer Dennis Brannvall previously confirmed that new Imperial outfits will be coming.

I’ve listed below the potential options I’ve found. Note that I don’t expect we’ll see all of them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two make it in.

Stormtroopers

While it’s obvious we’ll be getting stormtroopers in the Death Star, hopefully their default armor will be properly crisp and white. Even Bespin, which does feature the generic all-white armor, has dirty stormtroopers. Stormtrooper armor for the Death Star should be shiny, clean, white, and free of grime.

It definitely makes sense for clean stormtroopers to make an appearance, as the Death Star is a reasonably clean battle station. We’ll have to wait until later this month to find out for sure, though!

Imperial Gunners

While their helmets may not provide the best vision on the battlefront, Imperial gunners still look really, really cool. They man various Imperial weaponry, including turbolasers, ion cannons and the Death Star’s superlaser.

According to Wookiepedia, their visors are fitted with polarized filters that protect their eyesight from the intense glare of turbolaser and superlaser fire. Housed inside the helmets are also computers fitted with sensor arrays and macrobinocular viewplates. Other gadgets inside the helmet include tracking systems and a tongue-operated comlink.

The Imperial crest makes several appearances on their uniform. The helmet is adorned with the crest on the front, while the gunners’ shoulders feature a patch of the crest.

These guys did show up in Battlefront II as Imperial Engineers. The engineer was equipped with an E-11e shotgun, an F-187 fusion cutter, D5a detpacks and health/ammo drops. As a side note, while we don’t know just yet what new items will come with the Death Star, I wouldn’t mind seeing a new shotgun or a fusion cutter Star Card.

Death Star Troopers

The most notable thing about Death Star troopers is their massive helmet. I’m personally not a huge fan of this helmet, but they do look rather awesome when the helmet’s visor is down (as can be seen in the shot below from Return of the Jedi).

As Wookiepedia notes, the Death Star troopers occupy both combat and noncombat roles on both Death Stars. This leads me to believe that this skin is one of the more likely new skins.

However, they are primarily stationed on the Death Star, which would make it weird to see them on planets like Tatooine or Hoth. That hasn’t stopped DICE from including the Bespin wing guard as a purchasable skin, though, so anything’s possible! The Death Star trooper design also found its way into other positions within the Empire.

Many of these troopers lack a standard sidearm, but several were seen with E11s and DH-17s in a New Hope. Wookiepedia says they are primarily active in support roles, such as “guarding detention blocks, controlling the deflector shields, monitoring sensor arrays, handling hangar traffic control, and manning the superlaser.”

TIE Pilots

An Imperial pilot flying a TIE Fighter.

While we will be able to fly as Imperial Aces above the Death Star, with any luck we’ll be able to take to the ground and fight as infantry in the TIE pilots’ all-black flight suits.

The flight suits include energy-shielded fabric, positive gravity pressure boots and a life support chest piece that has a pair of breather tubes connected to the helmet.

The shell of the helmet resembles that of a standard stormtrooper headpiece, but it’s bulker on the top. According to Wookiepedia, this might’ve been “due to reinforced padding or internal pilot-to-ship communications equipment.”

The Imperial Pilot in Battlefront II came equipped with a WESTAR-25 commando pistol, a F-187 fusion cutter and TB-47 time bombs.

Imperial Officers

Another possible outfit is the olive grey uniforms worn by Imperial officers. These outfits could be seen throughout the movies and aboard both Death Stars.

Occasionally, officers wear a matching cap, like Moradmin Bast above or they might let their hair free in the wind, like Conan Antonio Motti below.

An officer skin would potentially allow for multiple customizations, as players could equip different heads with the outfit. This is would fit in line with what Brannvall tweeted about in July.

Battlefront II did have an Imperial officer class. However, those officers wore a uniform similar to what General Veers wore in Empire Strikes Back during the Empire’s assault on Hoth.

Officers in that game were equipped with a sonic blaster pistol, V-6D mortar launcher, a rage bonus and a R4 recon droid.

Stormtrooper Officers

Stormtrooper officers wear all-black uniforms when they are not dressed in their combat gear. With a black cap, black tunic and black pants, stormtrooper officers definitely stand out against other military members on the Death Star.

I especially like this look, but I’m not sold we’ll get it as a skin because I believe stormtrooper officers still wear their classic armor when in combat. Because Battlefront is supposed to be set in a combat situation, it may not be realistic for the officers to be wearing this look. Still, I wouldn’t say no if it was an option!

However, perhaps with the upcoming change to the customization system, DICE could include stormtrooper officer uniforms with the ability to swap heads. Perhaps this then might lead to the elimination of helmetless stormtroopers, but that might be a stretch.

Imperial Security Bureau Officers

ISB officers walking on the Death Star.

These officers can be seen several times during A New Hope. As shown on the right side of the image above, they primarily wear a white tunic with black pants and a white cap. Because their uniform is similar to the fourth DLC’s villain Director Krennic, I have a hunch we won’t see them in Battlefront.

If the ISB does get any love, I suppose it is possible we might see an outfit like what Agent Kallus wears below in Star Wars Rebels. However, considering that there are a number of other options DICE could pick directly from the movies, I don’t think we’ll get a skin like Agent Kallus’ (we should be getting a bo-rifle, though, which is a weapon wielded by Kallus).

Otherwise, I wouldn’t really expect an ISB presence in Battlefront. Besides some scant appearances of officers on the Death Star, the bureau never played a huge role in the original trilogy films.

Imperial Scanning Crew

Because they only made a small appearance in the movie, and it was in a noncombat role, I doubt we’ll see these guys in Battlefront. Still, I figured the scanning crew deserved an honorable mention! Han did kind of make their time in the movie rather short-lived…
